Production Process and Required Equipment for Printing Rubber Rollers

Printing rubber rollers are critical components for printing presses, responsible for ink transfer and surface contact. Their manufacturing involves metal‑core preparation, rubber compounding, rubber wrapping, vulcanization, precision finishing and strict quality inspection. High‑precision equipment is required at every stage to guarantee dimensional accuracy, bonding strength and printing performance.
First comes metal‑core processing. Raw steel or stainless‑steel pipes are cut to required length. Lathes conduct rough and fine turning to form the basic shaft structure. The core step is rubber wrapping and forming. Rubber sheets are tightly wound onto the treated metal core by rubber‑wrapping forming machines. Operators ensure no air bubbles are trapped between rubber and core. The assembled roller is wrapped with cloth and binding wire for pressure retention. Afterwards, the roller is sent into a vulcanization autoclave. Under controlled temperature (140‑160 °C) and pressure, vulcanization cross‑links rubber molecules, turning soft raw rubber into elastic, wear‑resistant solid rubber. After vulcanization and natural cooling, post‑processing is carried out. Rough turning lathes remove excess rubber material. External cylindrical grinding machines perform fine grinding and polishing to achieve target outer diameter, roundness and surface roughness. This step directly determines ink‑transfer performance for printing. The finished roller undergoes multi‑item testing: hardness tester checks Shore‑A hardness, run‑out detector verifies concentricity, and adhesion tester inspects rubber‑metal bonding quality. Final qualified products are cleaned and packed. Main post‑processing equipment: rubber lathe, cylindrical grinding machine, hardness tester, run‑out detector and adhesion‑strength tester.
